Clinical Psychologist, Psychotherapist,
Couple & Family Therapist, Addiction Counsellor
Psychotherapy is the use of psychological methods, in the context of a therapeutic relationship with a mental health professional, in order an individual, a couple, a family or a group to get help to deal with life/relational problems, various symptoms & dysfunctions or mental disorders.
Counselling is the process that aims at helping an individual, a couple, a family, a group of people to resolve conflicts, to make decisions, to confront crises, to improve relationships and to deal with personal, social, psychological problems or difficulties in general. The process takes place in a professional setting by a properly trained counsellor.
Counselling in the field of alcohol & drug abuse as well as in that of other addictions requires special training and experience that goes beyond counselling in other topics. I am involved in the field of addictions, as a researcher at the beginning and clinically later since 1986. My clinical work in addiction counselling and treatment, as well as the work of my colleague Ms Androulaki, is mainly with adolescents, young adults and their families.
I am involved in the training of mental health professionals since 1995. Initially at KETHEA’s Training Institute (1995-2003), then at the Laboratory for the Study of Human Relations (1998-2011) and from 2011 at the Training & Research Institute for Systemic Psychotherapy “Λόγω Ψυχής” whose I am a co-founder and co-director.
Clinical supervision of mental health professionals is a crucial pillar of, not only , their training but of their professional practice as well. Clinical supervision helps not only the novice therapists but the experienced ones in their growth and their efforts for providing high level services. In addition it ensures the most sound help that the recipients of the services need.
